The beginners ceramic course is intended for anyone who is interested in learning how to work with clay and bring out the best in their ceramic pieces.

In the beginners course you will get in-depth knowledge about ceramics and hand-building techniques, so you can understand how clay works and experiment with all of its possibilities. Hand-building is the perfect start with ceramics as it gives you more control of the material and you can practice it at home without the need for expensive machines and tools.

As a new addition, the beginner course includes an introduction to the potters wheel, where you will have the opportunity to throw and shape clay. In addition, you will receive two Open Studio-days where you have extra time to finish your projects or practice new techniques at your own pace.

In the start of the course, we will go through theoretical basics so you have a better understanding of the material. Afterwards, we will be creating a variety of small projects to get you started and challenged creatively.

You will learn slab, coil and pinching techniques. This will make you comfortable in approaching clay in different ways and find the method that works best for you. These techniques can be used for all types of projects, functional pottery or sculptural pieces.

We will work on several decorating styles and methods which will also help you develop your own unique style.

I will also share with you the many tips and tricks I have learned through years of working with the material so you have an easier and faster start.

By the end of the course you will have learnt how to create your ceramic pieces from idea to finished product. You will know the essential theory, learnt hand building techniques and tried several decorating finishes. You will be ready to continue on your own ceramics journey.

Note: In the beginners course we do not focus on the glazing process.
